Adesanya related his next challenge to the fight that made him the lineal champion of his division. When he faced Robert whittaker, in October, at UFC 243, Israel even stated that it would defeat its opponent with authority. No sooner said than done.

“I said that (that it would be easy) in the fight against Robert (Whittaker), because a lot of people thought I would lose. They said not to provoke Robert and I said I would make it look easy. What did I do? I made it look easy. I feel the same way about this fight (against Romero). Yoel is a guy who fights with people who stand in front of him. I don’t do that,” Israel said.

The confirmation of the fight between Adesanya and Romero was widely criticized by a number of fans and experts in mixed martial arts. For many, the downfall in holding such a fight is due to the fact that the Cuban is not in the best moment of his career. Despite his unquestionable qualities as a combatant, Romero, today, comes from two consecutive defeats, the last over Paulo borrachinha, the biggest candidate to fight for the belt and who is recovering from biceps surgery.

  1. Clown!!! It's because of this and many others that the UFC is losing audience in Brazil, Romero just lost to Borrachinha and he's going to fight for the belt, he could wait for Borrachinha to recover and even put up another one that doesn't come from a defeat. It's time for the UFC to start thinking about someone else to replace Dana so it doesn't fall even further.
