Covington promises to massacre Usman this Saturday: 'I'll be disappointed if I don't succeed'

Challenger for the welterweight title (up to 77kg.), Colby covington continues promoting hatred against his next opponent: the division champion Kamaru Usman. A self-confessed dislike of the Nigerian, the North American plans a great performance this Saturday (14), in the main fight of the UFC 245. According to the athlete, the idea is to massacre the rival and emerge victorious in the weekend's show. The statement was made in an interview with 'Combate'.

“I want to send this guy to the hospital on Saturday night, and if I don't do that, I won't be able to forgive myself. I will leave him disfigured and he will certainly leave the fight with a broken orbital bone. I'll knock him out, leave him unconscious on the floor. If I do anything less than that, I’ll be disappointed,” said Colby.

Even though he is playing for the UFC linear belt for the first time in his career, the athlete does not show nervousness for the biggest fight of his career. According to the American, Usman has technical flaws that will be exploited to achieve a positive result in the event.

“I see a lot of holes in his game. He has weak jiu-jitsu. He was submitted from behind by a guy I've already faced, José Caceres (2013). I also think he makes a lot of mistakes in his striking and I see that, in wrestling, he usually controls the fight by taking down opponents who are less experienced in that area,” he explained.

That said, the North American sees an advantage over Kamaru based on the strategy that will be put to the test this weekend. Covington hopes to repeat the good performances that qualified him to fight for the title.
