The Australian Alexander Volkanovsky is close to competing in the most important fight of his career this Saturday (14), when he faces Max Holloway for the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.) in the co-main fight of UFC 245. The athlete, who shocked the world by hitting José Aldo in Rio de Janeiro, in May, he wants to repeat the feat and become the division's newest champion. In an interview with 'BJ.Penn.com' the athlete spoke about his expectations for the fight.

“I don't want to sound arrogant, but I'm one of the strongest pound-for-pound people people will meet. Many people will see this on December 14th. I can't wait to show the world. People will consider me the 'underdog' and say that Max (Holloway) is very big, but once I get close to him, he will feel my strength and everyone will see my power”, said the athlete.

Although he shows respect for the champion, Alexander says he can submit his rival and prevent the result from being decided by the side judges. The Australian, however, remains calm and states that the fight can be decided on points, if the Hawaiian shows a good performance.

“Honestly, I really think I can finish it. He's tough and I respect him as a fighter. I will win in the early rounds, but if he is as tough as everyone says, I will win by decision.

In addition to trying for the unprecedented featherweight title, Volkanovski will put an undefeated streak of 17 fights on the line. The fighter's last – and only – defeat came in May 2013, when the athlete was beaten by compatriot Corey Nelson, when he represented the AFC (Australian Fighting Championship).

While the Australian is unbeaten in 17 fights, Holloway also has an imposing number to defend. In the featherweight division, the Hawaiian doesn't know what it's like to lose for 14 appearances. Max suffered a recent setback to Dustin poirier, in April, when he moved up a category and competed for the interim lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.).

After being defeated, Max returned to his division and made another successful defense by beating Frankie Edgar in the main fight of UFC 240.
