Thiago Pitbull expects a good duel against Tim Means this Saturday: 'Expectation of violence'

Brazilian Thiago Alves, the 'Pitbull', is close to breaking a big milestone this Saturday (7), when he faces Tim means No. UFC Washington. In North American territory, the Ceará native will complete his 27th fight since making his UFC debut in 2005. Against his experienced opponent, Pitbull hopes to regain his winning ways and promote a good performance to the fans. In an interview with 'Combate', the athlete spoke about his expectations for the weekend's clash.

“The expectation is of violence. He's tough, he comes to fight, but I'm sure I'm going to knock out this guy (Tim)”, said the Brazilian.

Thiago stated that, together with his team, he designed the strategies so that he can stand out over a rival who also needs to win. Both had setbacks in their last performances.

“You can explore the openings I saw in his last fights (against Niko Price, in March). That's the focus. Every time I go the distance, it doesn't go the way I want. He's a long guy, I have to close the distance and stay inside him. I’m faster, I have more power in my strikes and I’m only going to leave when he falls,” said Pitbull.

Close to hanging up his gloves, Thiago is experiencing a negative record in his last performances. The Brazilian has nine defeats in his last 15 fights. A victory over Means could represent a fresh start for the 36-year-old athlete, who has already publicly stated his desire to play for just two more years.

'Pitbull' had his best moment within Ultimate between 2006 and 2008, when he managed to reach the mark of nine consecutive victories, beating names like Matt hugs. The good phase gave Ceará the chance to face the legendary Georges St Pierre in a fight valid for the welterweight title (up to 77kg.). On that occasion, Thiago ended up defeated in a unanimous decision by the judges.

With more than 18 years of career, Pitbull today has 37 fights, with 23 wins and 14 losses. Tim, in turn, has 41 appearances, with 28 triumphs, 11 setbacks, one draw and one unsuccessful fight.
