The soap opera about when Jon Jones will once again defend his light heavyweight title (up to 93kg.) may be close to the end. The champion stated that there is already a contract to be analyzed and that all that remains is to sign it, so that his return to the octagon can be confirmed in February of next year. The information was released on its official Twitter account this Friday afternoon (22).

“The contract is already in my email, waiting to be printed and signed,” wrote 'Bones'.

Apparently, 'Bones' will return to the octagon against Dominick reyes, an undefeated athlete in the sport and currently fourth in the rankings. If the North American is confirmed as the new challenger, Jon will face one of the sport's promises, who recently easily beat the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg), Chris Weidman, in his debut in the top division.

Jones has not played since his victory over Thiago Marreta, UFC 239, which took place in July. On that occasion, the Brazilian promoted the biggest challenge of the champion's career so far, who emerged victorious in a split decision from the judges in a true battle.

Recently, Jon went public to declare his dissatisfaction with the lack of challenges within his division. The athlete has already beaten most of the highest ranked competitors in the category and said he was unmotivated by the opportunities offered.

The case even made the champion consider leaving the sport until a new talent could emerge so that he could take a liking to a new defense.

For many, Reyes could be the man to unlock the secrets to defeating the American, who has been undefeated for almost 10 years. His last and only negative result came due to disqualification after Jones applied illegal elbows to Matt Hamill, who, after the incident, was declared the winner of the match.

Dana White, president of Ultimate, stated this year that he will try to annul the official result of the match in question so that the champion can be considered an undefeated athlete.
