The year 2019 will forever be marked in the history of Jorge masvidal. In less than six months, the athlete's fame increased significantly, earning the fighter the lead role in a numbered event, millionaire figures and the creation of a symbolic belt. The enthusiasm was so great that it caught the attention of Nick Diaz, away from the sport for more than four years, who challenged Jorge after the fighter beat his brother in the UFC 244. In an interview with the program 'The Dan LeBatard Show', the athlete spoke about the provocation and future in MMA.

“Is he (Nick) asking me for a fight? Am I understanding this correctly or is he inviting me to walk somewhere? Is he asking to fight? Does he know who he’s asking for a fight?”, asked Jorge.
Masvidal's response was due to a comment from Diaz, after declaring in a recent interview that he was irritated by a statement by Jorge, in which he stated that he would baptize Nate before the UFC 244. The speech offended Nick, who took his younger brother's pain and suggested a fight between him and the owner of the 'toughest sport' belt.
Masvidal, however, spoke ironically about the challenges he has been receiving. According to the welterweight (up to 77 kg.), few wanted to face him when he wasn't among the elite in his category and didn't hold the symbolic UFC belt.
“A lot of people are saying my name now. They didn't want to fight me before, like, a year or two years ago. Everyone wants to stare at me now. It's very funny to me, because these same guys didn't want to face me before”, said Jorge.
In 2019, Masvidal had three big fights and emerged victorious with great performances in all of them. One of the most impactful, which earned him the right to have a super fight against Nate, was the knockout over Ben Askren in September, which shocked the world by ending the fight just five seconds after it started.
At the moment, the North American doesn't know the direction his career will take. According to Dana White, president of Ultimate, with the latest results, Masvidal has opened up a range of possibilities within the UFC. The combatant, however, does not know what will happen next.
“We don’t know what will come next. Everyone is looking for money. The next challenge will be the person who will put the most zeros in my account. Whoever it is”, concluded the combatant.
