Conor announced his return to MMA at a press conference held in Russia. At the time, the Irishman made a point of stating that he is ready to fight again. The athlete also criticized the UFC organization for, according to the former champion, delaying his return to the Octagon.

McGregor has not been seen by his fans in a professional fight since his defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov, which took place in October last year, at UFC 229, in a fight valid for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.). On that occasion, the 'Notório' ended up succumbing to the talent of the Russian, and was finished in one of the most watched clashes in the history of MMA.
