In the clash between two beasts in the ground game, the first round took place on the feet with Demian's advantage. But from the second round onwards, Askren could get a taste of the Brazilian's technique. The North American even took him down, but Maia threatened a triangle, followed by an omoplata, and reversed the position. Finally, in the third round, history repeated itself. Askren took him down, but Demian reversed, threatening a footlock, reached mount, took the back and submitted with a rear naked choke.
