The popular Strikeforce heavyweight GP comes to an end this Saturday (19), at the event to be held in the city of San Jose, California. The tournament, which lost momentum due to the UFC's purchase of Strikeforce in February 2011 and the elimination of favorites in the preliminary stages, ends the history of the heavyweight division in the organization, as after the GP the finalists become part of the roster of athletes of Ultimate.
On one side, veteran Josh Barnett, who before the start of the tournament was already considered a favorite, will face the underdog Daniel Cormier, who was called up to replace alistair overeem in the semifinals and knocked out the Brazilian Antonio Pezão to guarantee your place in the decision.
“Barnett and Cormier are great fighters and this fight could end very quickly. However, Cormier is more explosive. I think he wins”, said the Brazilian Junior Gypsy.
In addition to the GP decision, this Saturday's event will have a title fight. Considered one of the greatest lightweights today, Gilbert Melendez defends his reign against challenger Josh Thompson. Also on the main card, Rafael Feijão makes a long-awaited rematch against Mike Kyle. On the preliminary card, three other Brazilians will be in action. Gesias Cavalcante faces Isaac Vallie-Flagg, Guto Inocente faces Virgil Zwicker, and Yuri Vilefort Quinn Mulhern
