One of the representatives of MMA's old guard is back in Brazil. Mauritius Shogun will be one of the athletes to perform at the UFC Sao Paulo, on November 16, in the capital of São Paulo. The former light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg.) will exchange forces against Sam alvey and will perform in front of the Tupiniquim fans after more than two years. The information was released by Guilherme Cruz, journalist for 'MMA Fighting'. Rua has not fought in Brazil since the victory over Gian Villante, at UFC Fortaleza, in 2017.

After going through a difficult period in his career, between 2012 and 2014, Shogun from Curitiba recovered his good form and faces Alvey, who is coming off three consecutive defeats. Maurício, who was once champion of the extinct PRIDE and held the belt, which today belongs to Jon Jones tries to regain his good position among light heavyweights.

In his last five clashes, Rua achieved four positive results. In the last one, in December last year, when he played in the duel against Tyson Peter, the Brazilian, after going through difficult moments in the fight, showed that he still has the strength that made him famous and delivered a devastating knockout to his opponent.

Shogun's opponent, Sam tries to keep his contract with the company after a series of negative results. The North American, who debuted for the company in 2014, has recorded four defeats in his last eight appearances; three of them against Brazilian opponents (Klidson Abreu, Rogério Minotouro e Thales leites). The last time Alvey had his arm raised after a fight was in June last year, when the athlete hit Gian Villante in the judges' split decision.

Currently, Maurício is in 15th place in the welterweight rankings, which recently received two weight 'reinforcements' from the lower division. Ronaldo Jacare, former Strikeforce champion and responsible for starring in the same event in which Shogun will participate, chose to seek new opportunities and try to find a place in the sun in the division reigned by Jones.

In case of victory, Rua could return to play, in the future, against a better ranked opponent within the organization and, who knows, dream again of a new fight for the title, lost in 2011.

PUBLICITY:

At 37 years old, Maurício now has 37 fights in his career, with 26 wins and 11 losses.

Sam, 33, has already played on 46 occasions, recording 33 victories and 13 setbacks.
