It's nothing new to see Conor McGregor Working in MMA became a true soap opera. The Irishman, who has undisputed technical and promotional qualities for his duels, simply cannot give in and facilitate negotiations for a new duel. One of the ‘Notorious’ coaches, John Kavanagh stated that he would like to see the student fight against Frankie Edgar still this year. In a recent interview with ‘The Mac Life’, the coach spoke about the subject.

“I think he (Conor) and Frankie Edgar it would be a great fight. I think this fight was in the plans when McGregor was at featherweight. He is a former champion. A great fighter”, said the coach.

John also stated when he would like the fight to take place. For him, McGregor should return to mixed martial arts in 2019, to continue his career and be able to dream of regaining a belt next year.

“If it were up to me, I would love to see Conor fight against Frankie Edgar later this year if possible. And then, he would take another direction in 2020”, commented Kavanagh.

The coach assured that he knew Edgar's style and also praised the former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg) and stated that his game is difficult for any Ultimate athlete. However, he even compared his way of acting to that of Marcus Brimage, who was fast, small and ended up being knocked out by Conor in less than two minutes, in a fight that marked the ‘Notório’ UFC debut in 2013.

“Frankie has a very complicated dealing style. You have to train really hard for that. But it's also something we're familiar with because of Conor's fight against Brimage. A small guy, fast hands and good wrestling. But Frankie has been there a long time, facing everyone and has beaten legends like B.J. Penn (2010, 2010 and 2014). I just think it would be a great match for the fans and for me. I would love to see that,” concluded Kavanagh.

Edgar is coming off a tough defeat against Max Holloway, in a fight that represented the main fight of UFC 240, valid for the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.). After being defeated and failing once again in his attempt to win the belt in this division, the athlete publicly announced his decision to move to bantamweight, which today is reigned by Henry Cejudo. However, when he learned of a statement from Conor in which he mentioned his name as a possible opponent, the fighter backtracked and stated that he would change his mind momentarily to face the Irishman.

“I know I should go down to bantamweight, but obviously I would delay that a little bit for a fight against McGregor,” said Frankie in an interview with ‘TVZ Sports’.

Conor hasn't fought since October last year, when he was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in a fight valid for the lightweight belt (up to 70,3kg.). Since mid-2019, rumors about the Irishman's return to the octagon have been gaining new chapters, but none with a happy ending so far.
