the return of Conor McGregor the Octagon appears, in fact, to be getting closer. After seeing your rival Khabib Nurmagomedov to defend his second belt, the Irishman has been exchanging barbs with the Russian's latest challenger, Dustin poirier, and increasing rumors of a second fight between them. In the latest provocation, the 'Notório' recently published, on his official Twitter account, an image depicting the knockout given to 'Diamante' in their last meeting, in 2014. The first time they shared the octagon, the fighters were part of the group of athletes belonging to the featherweight division (up to 65,7kg), which, at the time, had José Aldo as a great champion. On that occasion, McGregor had no difficulty in defeating the North American, who would go on to be successful in the lightweight division (up to 70,3kg) and even win the interim title in the category.

Conor managed to knock Dustin out in less than two minutes of combat and continued his climb towards fighting for the belt, which he would win just over a year later, when he beat the 'People's Champion' in just 13 seconds, at UFC 194.

After the defeat to the Irishman, Poirier, who had already unsuccessfully challenged for the featherweight title in 2012, decided it was time to move up to the heaviest division. The North American then achieved a streak of four consecutive victories until he was beaten by Michael Johnson, in 2016. With the negative result, 'Diamante' didn't lose any more acting for the UFC. He went undefeated for more than two years, winning the interim title until his meeting with Khabib, for the unification of the lightweight belt, when he was defeated by submission in the third round of the UFC 242, at the beginning of September, in Abu Dhabi.

After being beaten by the Russian, Dustin publicly revealed his dejection, even considering early retirement. However, the bad moment was short-lived. Noting that Conor does not have a fight scheduled and his possible opponents already have commitments made, the North American tried to get the UFC board to carry out negotiations for a new meeting with the Irishman.

At first, McGregor mocked Dustin's attack, stating that he defeated his former rival in less than two minutes of fighting. Poirier, in turn, asked for a new chance, given that the athlete has greatly increased his performance in recent years.

There is a desire on the part of Ultimate for Conor to fight again this year, but, as usual, negotiations with the fighter tend to take a long time until the desired clauses between the Irishman and the company are found.

McGregor has not stepped into the Octagon since October last year, when he was defeated by Nurmagomedov in an attempt to regain his title, won in 2016, but which was taken away from him due to his inactivity in the company.
