The former interim lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.), Dustin poirier, seems to be recovering well psychologically from the defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov last weekend, at UFC 242, in Abu Dhabi. After losing the fight to unify the category title, the fighter, who even considered early retirement, made a post on his official Instagram account, in which he thanked his opponent for the lesson learned.

"Everything happens for a reason. This is my journey and it is unique. Thank you, Khabib, for another tough life lesson. In apologies and without regrets. I will recover and move forward”, wrote the American.
Poirier even worried his fans the day after the defeat by inferring that he might abandon his MMA career. The athlete did not confirm his return to mixed martial arts, but, shortly after, he launched a challenge to Conor McGregor.
The fighter was very emotional in his interviews after the duel against Nurmagomedov. In one of them, the fighter cited the difficulty in dealing with this defeat for the rest of his life, suggesting that he could have done better.
“I’m familiar with defeat. I'm just going to have to live the rest of my life wondering if I could have done better, if I could have defended some takedowns better. If I could have used more force to press the guillotine”, commented the fighter, referring to the uncomfortable condition he gave the Russian in the third round.
The setback for the Russian marked the sixth defeat for the American, who, at 30 years old, has 25 wins in his professional MMA career.
On the other hand, Khabib reached the impressive mark of 28 fights and, in addition to retaining his title, guaranteed his unbeaten record.
