“Sad news, guys. Unfortunately, due to an unexpected illness, I am forced to withdraw from my fight in Copenhagen, September 28th, against Gunnar Nelson. I tried everything I could to stay in the fight, but my team of doctors didn't allow me. My goal now is to get 100% healthy so I can get back to doing what I love. After 4 weeks of intense treatment, I should be back to work. November or December Pitbull will be back”, wrote the fighter.

It will not be this time that Pitbull will have the opportunity to recover from the setback he suffered in May, to Laureano Staropoli. On that occasion, the Brazilian was defeated by unanimous decision from the judges, after failing to impose his game and being dominated by his opponent for three rounds.

His latest setback decreed Thiago's bad phase in the organization. In his last 10 commitments for the UFC, Pitbull suffered six setbacks and won just four victories. His last positive result came in February this year, when the athlete from Fortaleza (CE) managed to overcome Max griffin in the unanimous decision of the judges.

The peak of the 35-year-old fighter's career came in 2009, when Thiago had the opportunity to face the legendary Georges St-Pierre in a duel valid for the welterweight title (under 77kg). On that occasion, the Ceará native ended up losing in a unanimous decision by the judges.

Gunnar Nelson also seeks redemption within the company. The Icelander is coming off a defeat to Leon Edwars in March of this year and is looking to get back on track to winning ways. The best phase of Nelson's career, aged 31, was between 2007 and 2014, when the fighter managed to achieve an undefeated streak of 13 victories. The first negative result of his life in MMA came in October 2014, when Gunnar was beaten by Rick Story in a unanimous decision by the judges.

In his professional career, Nelson collects battles against Brazilians Demian Maia, Alex Cowboy and the Argentine, Santiago Ponzinibbio.
