Felder proposes a new fight to Edson Barboza, but with conditions: 'I want a five-round fight'

One of the most talked about topics about UFC 242 was the controversial result of the event's co-main fight between Edson Barboza e Paul felder. On that occasion, the North American was declared the winner following a unanimous decision by the judges, which provoked boos from the public present at the venue. Aware of the fact, Paul used his official Instagram account to justify the fight and propose a trilogy against the Friborg native.

“(The fight) was a war. A close fight between two skilled people who wanted to finish each other off. I only have respect for Edson (Barboza). We both went out and fought to entertain the fans,” Felder wrote.

After praising the fight and his rival, the North American then took the opportunity to comment on his view of the duel. For Paul, although the fight was balanced, he saw that he had the best moments throughout the dispute.

“I chased him throughout the fight. I didn't stop during the entire fight. When he knocked me down, he took a loss. I suffered a cut from a headbutt. Edson was cut because of my punches. We both attacked each other during the fight which whoever came away with the loss would be understandably upset; but the numbers don’t lie,” said the American.

Paul then invited a new confrontation. However, the athlete made a reservation about scheduling a new duel.

“If we need to do it again, I would be happy. But this trilogy needs to be five rounds, because someone was about to give up and that someone wasn't me. If the fans and Edson need a solution to this, then I want a main fight”, concluded Felder.

The athletes' meeting represented the repeat of a confrontation that took place in 2015, four years ago. On that occasion, the Brazilian got the better of his rival in the judges' unanimous decision. A new commitment, then, would mark the tiebreaker, as each one has a triumph over the other.

With the victory over Barboza, Felder managed to jump three positions in the lightweight rankings (up to 70,3kg) and is currently in seventh place; position previously occupied by Friburguense. The setback dropped Edson to ninth on the category's elite list.

The defeat last weekend caused Edson's team to file an appeal to try to reverse the result of the battle.
