Before accepting combat against Anthony Pettis, former lightweight champion (up to 70,3kg.), Diaz had entered the octagon after accepting a rematch against Conor McGregor, whom he had shocked the world by defeating in 2016, accepting a fight at the last minute.

The two fights against the Irishman gave Nate a good financial return and, according to the fighter, no other athlete was up to the task of making him return to the UFC. The American clearly states that he had already beaten all potential opponents in the lightweight division. With that in mind, the fighter opted to move up a category and try his luck at welterweight (77kg.).

When choosing to face 'Showtime', Diaz stated that the athlete is a legend and continues to perform at a high level. Inside the octagon, however, Pettis was easy prey for Nate, who dominated the fight during every round and won the judges' unanimous decision.

After the fight, the folkloric fighter challenged Jorge masvidal, who promptly accepted the invitation. Jorge is coming off a great victory over Ben Askren, whom he submitted to the quickest knockout in UFC history, in UFC 239, in July.

Recently, Diaz made a post on a social network in which he appears, apparently, training boxing in a gym. The athlete, according to the image, maintains his physical shape and, if there is an agreement between all parties, he can return sooner than the last time.
