The North American, Tony Ferguson, stated that he prefers a victory Dustin poirier about Khabib Nurmagomedov this Saturday (7), at UFC 242, valid for the unification of the lightweight title (up to 70,3kg.). For 'El Cucuy', it would be interesting for his compatriot to win so that the next duel for the belt would be a clash between Americans. The statement was made in a recent interview with 'Ariel Helwani's MMA Show'.

“I hope Dustin (Poirier) beats him, puts him on his back and puts him out, so we can have an incredible North American battle,” Tony said.

A fight against Nurmagomedov also appeals to Ferguson. The Russian and the North American have a long history of rivalry. The fight between the athletes has already been scheduled on four occasions, however, the confrontation never took place due to injuries. The fight was canceled twice due to problems with Khabib and twice due to Tony.

“As I said, if the result is Khabib and me, we will fight and face each other in December. So, whatever, Dustin or Khabib, I want the title fight later, in December, in Las Vegas. Let's make this happen”, said 'El Cucuy'.

Ferguson recently returned to the octagon after spending eight months away from professional combat due to having to resolve personal issues, both health and marriage. His last confrontation had taken place in October last year, when he beat the former division champion, Anthony Pettis, in the fight that was voted 'Fight of the Year' in 2018.

In 2019, Tony returned to the Octagon, in June, against the charismatic Donald Cerrone, putting an 11-fight unbeaten record on the line and under the promise that the victor would compete for the category title against the winner of Poirier and Khabib. Ferguson won the fight and secured his place as challenger.

Currently, the athlete is 35 years old and has had 27 matches, with 24 triumphs and three setbacks; the last, in 2012, for Michael Johnson.
