The Swede's retirement, Alexander Gustafson, seems to have lasted little. After announcing his retirement from MMA, still in the octagon, after being beaten by Anthony Smith at UFC Stockholm, in June, the athlete stated that he is in negotiations to return to Ultimate. In a recent interview with 'MMAViking', the former challenger for the light heavyweight title (up to 93kg.) spoke about the subject and confirmed that he aims Luke Rockhold as a potential opponent.

“I'm talking to the UFC. It's been a back and forth. It ended up coming a little quickly. I stayed home for a few days and had that itch on my hands to get back to training,” said Alexander.

Before dropping his gloves on the UFC Stockholm stage, Gustafsson had plans to become one of UFC's next challengers. Jon Jones in a new title fight. The Swede had been defeated by the North American at the end of last year in the fight for the category belt.

The defeat to Smith, however, shook Alexander, who made a point of leaving his gloves in the octagon and saying goodbye to his fans in his home country.

Time passed and the light heavyweight seems to have found the motivation to return to training. The athlete, in fact, already has a target for his likely return to the organization: the former middleweight champion (up to 83,9kg.), Luke Rockhold, who moved up a category and, in his first commitment, suffered a tough defeat against Jan Blachowicz, in July.

"Luke Rockhold it would be a good fight. I would love a fight. Dueling Luke would be a great way to come back. He’s a tough guy, a legend,” Alexander said.

At 32 years old, the Swede has already had 22 fights with 18 wins and six losses. Among the light heavyweights, the athlete competed for the Ultimate belt on three occasions, but did not win in any of them.
