The former heavyweight champion (up to 120,2kg.), Cain Velazquez revealed that he has plans to return to mixed martial arts. The fighter, who recently debuted in Mexican wrestling, spoke of his desire to return to the UFC. The plans for the moment, however, are to continue participating in the current sport. The statement was made in a recent interview with 'MMA Junkie'.

“I've always really liked MMA, since I started doing it, until now. I’m still training and I still love it, so I’m not sure I’m done yet,” Cain said.

The heavyweight, however, highlighted that he dedicated himself to wrestling in such a way that he also ended up falling in love with the new sport.

“I still love MMA, but professional wrestling is something I also love. It hit me by surprise and I wasn't sure if I would like it or if I could even do it at first. I'm becoming a natural at the sport. I love the acting side, the entertainment. I can do things that are physical, so it also looks cool”, said the former champion.

Cain is considered one of the best UFC heavyweights of all time. He was champion between 2010 and 2011, and 2012 and 2015. The subsequent knee injuries slowed down the American's career, who is now 37.

The athlete remained without stepping into the octagon from July 2016 until February of this year. On his return, however, Cain had a huge disappointment, when he was surprised by the giant Francis Ngannou and end up knocked out just 26 seconds into the fight.

The defeat raised doubts as to whether the fighter's fans would see him again wearing UFC gloves, even more so when the athlete announced his participation in professional wrestling, just as he did Ronda Rousey. Velasquez, however, shows signs that he can, in fact, return to MMA.

“I plan on getting back into wrestling too, but right now, I'm having a lot of fun doing this pro wrestling. I can't wait to perform again and try to be one of the best guys”, said the fighter.

Velasquez justifies his current preference for wrestling because, despite being a contact sport, there is no imminent risk of serious injuries as in mixed martial arts. The athlete can then perform more safely and maintain physical integrity.

“In professional wrestling, I'm able to work well and it doesn't put me in danger. Fighting will put my body in danger, put my knees in danger and everything else. It's just full force with punches, kicks, hits and everything else. Your opponent is working against you and we don’t know what they’re going to do either”, concluded the former champion.

In his professional record, Cain has already competed in 17 fights, winning 14 and losing on three occasions.
