Cyborg's friend, Valentina Shevchenko praises Dana White: 'With me, he is polite and kind'

The flyweight champion (up to 56,7kg.), Valentina Shevchenko, praised UFC president, Dana White, after the controversies involving him and the Brazilian Chris Cyborg. At the time, the Curitiba native and the president of Ultimate exchanged barbs via the press and social media when they tried to reach an agreement for a possible contract renewal of the former featherweight champion (up to 65,7kg). Even though he was accused of being disrespectful to Cyborg, Valentina praised White. The statement was made in a recent interview with 'MMA Fighting'.

“I can say that, from what I know about Dana White, he is a very good person; he is a very polite and kind person. From a very early age, he always cared about fighters. If he says, 'I'll take care of you.' You can be sure that he will take care of you, because he is trying to make life good for UFC fighters,” said the fighter. “He wants UFC fighters to have it all, because the UFC is the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world. It's not just him, it's everyone involved in the UFC; the treatment of fighters is unique. I have not received this treatment in any other organization,” Shevchenko said.

Regarding Cyborg, the fighter also showed respect. Considered one of the best female athletes of all time, Cris and Valentina were once training partners, which helped to strengthen their relationship and made any possibility of confrontation between them in the future nullified.

“I never thought about facing Cyborg, because we are from totally different weight classes. We already train together. I always considered her more of a training partner and a friend. I never thought this fight could ever happen”, she concluded the champion.

This Saturday, Shevchenko will defend her second belt. The athlete will face one of the only two fighters who have ever defeated her. Liz Carmouche will share the octagon with the champion and will try to become an Ultimate title holder for the first time. The duel will represent the main fight of UFC Montevideo.
