After watching Holloway win, Volkanovski sees chances of winning champion

The last executioner of José Aldo, Alexander Volkanovsky, did not go to Canada, last Saturday (27) for a trip. The Australian, who followed the duel between Max Holloway e Frankie Edgar valid for the featherweight title (up to 65,7kg.), at UFC 240, he used the fight to analyze the flaws in the games of his possible future opponents. “I feel like Frankie really moved forward and ended up becoming an easy target. He started getting hit with punches a few times. I would not do that. I would stay out of Holloway's reach. He would come and go. You would work on the takedowns and confuse him in the fight,” said the featherweight.

Although Max was declared the winner of the fight in a unanimous decision by the judges, for Alexander, however, the fight was balanced. The Australian noticed that Frankie got some good actions against the Hawaiian, which could give rise to actions to be worked on against Holloway in the future.

“I think it was an even fight. Sitting in the chairs, I thought it was more balanced than what the judges saw. I think Frankie won a few rounds. It was competitive and tough”, praised Volkanovski.

One of Holloway's defining characteristics is his above-average boxing ability. In five rounds, the Hawaiian managed to show the public an above-average ability to throw jabs and straight shots without being surprised by a counterattack. The fighter controls distance very well and manages to score without being attacked in any way. Alex also commented on the champion's qualities.

“If you want to face me with that kind of game plan, I feel like I’m pretty explosive and powerful. I feel like I can do a lot more damage, and once again, I have my wrestling background. Max is a true champion. I like watching him fight, but I want to have that fight. I want that”, concluded the Australian.

After UFC 240, rumors began to emerge behind the scenes that Holloway and Volkanovski could be part of the UFC card. UFC 243, which will take place on October 6th in Australia. Although it is a possibility, confirmation of the fight would generate an accumulation of commitments on Max's schedule, who would have his fourth fight in less than a year. The champion stated in a press conference after this Saturday's card that he would need a medical evaluation before making any decision.
