the career of Alexander Gustafson came to an end, surprisingly, last Saturday (01). The Swede, who lost for the second time at home in an Ultimate UFC main fight, left his gloves in the octagon and announced that 'the show is over'. Although many fighters and names on the official broadcast believe it was a passionate decision that would be reversed, the light heavyweight confirmed that he is leaving the sport.

At the UFC Stockholm press conference, an event in which Gustafsson was submitted by the American Anthony Smith, the Swede reaffirmed his decision to hang up his gloves.

“I feel like it’s a one-way business,” he said. “If you don’t feel like you have more in you, then it’s over,” Gustafsson added.

Alexander Gustafson, who challenged for the UFC belt on three occasions, fighting hard against Jon Jones (on the first date) and Daniel Cormier, revealed that his goal would be to have a new opportunity for the title. However, after the setback against Smith, the dream of holding the title became quite difficult.

“I feel like I don't do this for the money or anything else. I do this because I want to be the best and beat the best and if I can’t do that, it’s over,” he said.

“I lost to Jon (Jones) and that was the third fight for the title and I felt like I had a little injury in that fight and I couldn't show my ability. So I still had some hope in me and I felt that this struggle of Anthony Smith it would be a great comeback and start rising again. But now I also lose to Anthony. It’s like a confirmation to myself why I lost my three title fights,” he concluded.
