The Brazilian Johnny Walker is back in the news in the world of martial arts. The UFC light heavyweight (up to 93kg.) was in Las Vegas (USA) to participate in a performance test and surprised everyone by breaking the power record by scoring 2.000 watts in a 10-second shot. The video of the performance was released by the official Ultimate channel last week. With this feat, the athlete was congratulated by the experts present at the scene.

“Congratulations, Johnny. It is a new record set. There were almost 2000 watts of power (in 10 seconds). The old record was 1978 watts. This is insane”, commented Roman Fomin, Director of Sport and Science at Ultimate.

The best performance achieved in the same test belonged to Roman himself, who built a career as a professional cyclist and, today, works for the UFC. No athlete in any category had achieved such an impressive result.

The assessment consists of subjecting the athlete to pedal at their strongest pace for 10 seconds on an exercise bike. After the proposed time, the power achieved is published for analysis.

In an interview given after the test, Walker also highlighted that he is not at the peak of his physical form, as he is recovering from an injury suffered after a bad fall while celebrating his last triumph against Misha Curkunov, in March this year.

“I haven't trained properly for three months and I did a test on the bike that I had never done before. And, even without my conditioning being 100%, I broke the group's record here, of all divisions, of all weights, the best was mine. Of explosion. I think I'm explosive”, commented the fighter.

The Brazilian also joked about his achievement, stating that he had already realized his recovery capacity and also said that he intends to beat his own record another time.

“I knew I had an explosion and a very good recovery. I always felt that in training. But now, with all these high-performance tests and all this technology, I've shown what I'm capable of and where I can go. I want to beat my own record next time,” said Johnny.

Despite his confidence, Walker only had three UFC fights. However, after three devastating knockout victories, the Fluminense native has caught the eyes of both athletes and management. In a recent interview, Johnny confirmed that he intends to fight against the current champion of the division, Jon Jones, still this year.

Currently, the phenomenon is 27 years old, and, in his professional record, he already has 20 fights, winning 17 and suffering three setbacks.
