Ian Heinisch admits that 'patience' was key to defeating Cara de Sapato

Ian Heinisch is on his honeymoon with Ultimate. “I knew I had to be patient when he grabbed me. I couldn't be explosive. He's a world champion on the ground and if I got caught, I'd be submitted. I had to be technical and patient. I let him wear out a little and then I came back,” said the athlete.

Although the strategy worked perfectly, the duel, even with Heinisch's clear superiority, had its moments of balance between both. More experienced and out of fighting rhythm, Shoe Face showed signs of fatigue during the second round.

“I knew it was a close fight until the third round and we both had to go all out. I wanted more. I had to fight a lot. I was looking for that ending, but it's very elusive. It was difficult to catch his chin. I did my best. I’m happy,” said Ian.
