With an enviable record, Renato was undefeated throughout his career until he suffered his first defeat, when he was beaten by Brian ortega at UFC 214, in 2017. After the setback, the Brazilian returned to action three more times, winning two victories and suffering his second defeat; this time, for the former category champion, José Aldo. Having debuted for Ultimate in 2014, Moicano played for the company on seven occasions, totaling five assets.

His possible opponent, however, debuted in the UFC in 2011. Since then, he has had six fights. One of them, for the featherweight belt, when he was defeated by the then champion, Aldo, in 2013. O 'Korean zombie' retired from MMA for more than three years to fulfill his country's military service obligations.
