Jefferson Roger Maciel Barata, the driver who ran over former UFC fighter Rodrigo Monstro, was arrested by the police and confessed to being the perpetrator of the murder. In an interview with 'UOL', the suspect commented on the crime. Rodrigo was the brother of fighter Michel Trator.

'I always thought of a way to raise my family and not let my children grow up without a father. I feel for your family. I regret it and have already asked God for forgiveness. It was one of the things I feared most: taking someone's life,' commented Jefferson. 'I started this work to have more time at church. I became a reference for young people, teaching music, and that's what happened,' he reported.
According to the suspect's testimony, he was transporting Rodrigo and some friends, when, at one point, he asked the passengers not to make so much noise. Immediately, 'Monstro' began attacking the driver with punches and an argument began. Jefferson then got out of the car and removed the luggage from the trunk. Moments later, the suspect returned to the scene and ran over the victim, who died.
Jefferson expressed regret and said he would get married on the day he was arrested by the authorities. The suspect also claimed that he just wanted to scare Rodrigo.
“I was emotionally shaken and thought: 'I'm going to scare him'. I never imagined that I would take someone’s life,” she said.
'I never hurt anyone. Today would be my wedding. I was going to start a new life. I will pay for what I did and I deeply regret it. I ask for forgiveness from your family and friends', concluded the driver.
Jefferson will remain in prison and will be charged with murder.
Rodrigo Monstro, 28 years old, was married and father of two children. His last fight took place in June last year, when he defeated Luiz Fabiano 'Caipira' by submission in the first round, at 'Shooto Brasil 85'.
