The climate between Jon Jones e Rashad evans It got hot on national television in the United States. The former teammates, who will compete for the light heavyweight belt at UFC 145, were interviewed on Fuel TV's “Ultimate Insider” program. The controversy began when Evans' departure from Greg Jackson's academy was discussed.
“I have no sympathy for Rashad. I remember you leaving Greg Jackson's gym and saying, 'I need a team that can only focus on me.' Then he went to Blackzilians. There is no 'I' in a team. There is no 'I' with Jackson. There is 'I' in Blackzilians. So, I look at you as fake, arrogant and selfish”, said Jones.
The champion, who appeared to be quite excited, stated that he never thought he could face Rashad, and that he was attacking the history of Greg Jackson's team. At this point, Evans interrupted to defend himself.
"History? I made the story. What are you talking about? I helped make the story, and you just got into it. I helped make Coach Greg Jackson's name. I helped create the reason you wanted to train there. So don’t come and talk about history with me.”
Rashad also stated that a part of him will always root for Jones because of the old times, but that the disaffection intends to become something that he really isn't. And he got revenge from his rival, who commented on the former light heavyweight champion's fighting style.
“I’ll tell you to your face. The way for Rashad to win is with his powerful right hand or try to take me down round after round. I know how I could lose this fight. But at the same time, I'm also a wrestler. I don't think he understood that. Do you think I'm not practicing my game plan enough? My takedown defenses? You don't know what you're getting into. Say what you want, but I know, as much as you think you know,” he teased.
In turn, Rashad remained calm, but responded to the champion's provocations.
“Jon, you just showed me exactly why you’re going to lose. Because you think you know. You’re going to do what I want you to do”, he teased.
