After announcing your category change, last week, the Brazilian Demian Maia already knows his first opponent in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg.). The athlete from São Paulo faces the South Korean Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 148, an event that takes place on July 7, in Las Vegas, in the United States.
Demian, who has a record of 15 wins and four losses, is not going through a good moment in his career. After disputing the middleweight belt (up to 84 kg.), in 2010, against his compatriot Anderson Silva, the jiu-jitsu black belt was unable to achieve a good sequence of victories. Therefore, after being dominated by Chris Weidman at UFC on Fox 2, in January, the São Paulo native decided to move down to the welterweight category.
In turn, Dong Hyun Kim has just one loss in his career. In the other fights, there were 15 wins, one draw and one No Contest (fight without result). In his last appearance, the South Korean beat Sean Pierson at UFC 141, in December 2011.
