The fighting world is in mourning in Brazil. On Friday night (23), black belt Eraldo Paes, jiu-jitsu coach at Brazilian Top Team, one of the biggest MMA teams in the world, passed away. Eraldo, 33 years old, who was fighting stomach cancer in 2007, suffered a crisis on Friday afternoon and was rushed to hospital in Rio de Janeiro, but he did not survive a thrombosis.
Eraldo's childhood friend, Strikeforce fighter Miltinho Viera, couldn't contain his emotion at the loss of his coach.
“The greatest warrior I have ever known in my life, my best friend, my brother, my trainer, Rest in peace. Eraldo Paes, warrior of the ring and of life,” he said. “Eraldo fought intensely for his life against cancer for almost five years and I never saw him complain about anything”, he added.
Eraldo's body will be buried today (24), in the Jardim da Saudade cemetery, in Sulacap, at 13:30 pm and the wake will be in Chapel C at 10 am.
