Vitor Belfort considers continuing to fight after UFC Rio

Vitor belfort announced his retirement from MMA in January at UFC St. Louis, but his rival, Uriah Hall He felt ill during the weight cut and left the Brazilian without an opponent. The 'Phenomenon' then scheduled his farewell fight, at home, against his compatriot Lyoto Machida at UFC 224, May 12, in Rio de Janeiro. However, the Brazilian is already considering reviewing the possibility and continuing to fight.

Speaking to journalists before UFC 224, Belfort did not say that the fight against Lyoto would be his last appearance. He made a point of leaving open the possibility of continuing to fight after the event in Rio.

“Why not (continue fighting)? We don't know tomorrow. Today we have nothing to retire on,” declared Vitor.

The Brazilian fighter also commented on what the fight will be like in his hometown and the duel against his friend and former training partner Lyoto Machida.

“It's great to fight in Rio. I'm very happy to be fighting in the city where my dream began,” he said. “There’s not a lot of friendship there. One will want to beat the other in the fight”, he concluded.

Vitor belfort has a professional record of 26 wins and 13 losses. The Brazilian was the youngest fighter to win a fight in the UFC, in 1997, at 19 years old. The Phenomenon also won a heavyweight tournament, beating two opponents on the same night and won the light heavyweight belt in 2004.
