Surrounded by much expectation, Mackenzie dern made his Ultimate debut this Saturday (03). The jiu-jitsu black belt struggled to beat Ashley yoder in the judges' split decision in the fight that closed the preliminary card at UFC 222. Even with the narrow victory, the Brazilian-American remains undefeated in MMA with six victories.

A specialist in jiu-jitsu, Dern showed that he still needs to improve his stand-up game and movement in the octagon. But the 'New Round', as it has been called, showed that it only needs one opportunity to show its full potential on the ground. Mackenzie only took down Yoder in the final minute and quickly got to her back to almost finish the fight, but the American was saved by the bell.
