Dana White says: UFC will take away Conor McGregor's belt

End of an era in the UFC! Conor McGregor, the first fighter to win the event's belt in two categories simultaneously, must lose his second title without entering the octagon. UFC president, Dana White, revealed that the organization will remove the lightweight reign (up to 70,3 kg.) from the Irishman, just as it did in the featherweight division (up to 65,3 kg.).

The leader was walking through the streets of Las Vegas when he was stopped by a reporter from the TMZ gossip website. With conviction, Dana confirmed that the dispute between Tony Ferguson, current interim champion, against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 it will be for the linear belt.

“It's like I said at the press conference in Boston: this fight will be for the title. Not for the interim, but for the real belt. We will take off the belt Conor McGregor,” White stated.

The director also commented on McGregor's situation with the removal of the belt. According to him, the Irishman understands the situation and hopes that the now former champion will face the winner of the duel between Ferguson and Nurmagomedov in the second half.

“If he’s upset? Conor understands. He's made a lot of money and wants to stay without fighting for a while, but the division needs to move forward, and so does business. I would like to see Conor face the winner of Khabib vs. Ferguson. Maybe in August or September. I don't know. But this is what I always say: Conor will never stop making that amount of money.
