Close to closing a superfight with the bantamweight champion Amanda nunes, Chris Cyborg, owner of the UFC featherweight belt, criticized the organization for not helping the growth of its own division. To needle the bosses, the Brazilian even spoke about Ultimate's biggest rival, Bellator, which is building a featherweight category with quality fighters, headed by the champion julia budd, as well as names like Brazilian Talita “Treta” Nogueira and Australian Arlene Blencowe.

In an interview with the Split Decision podcast, Cyborg praised the way Bellator has given credibility to featherweight fighters and said that, if she really wants to be considered the best in the world in her category, she may need to fight for another promotion.
“If you think about it, the belt has been up for grabs for almost a year. They didn't sign any fighter specifically for the featherweight division, they don't put women's featherweight fights on other cards, in short, they don't sign anyone. How will they develop the division if they don't sign anyone? When Dana White argues that there are no girls in the featherweight division, it sounds crazy to me. Every week, Bellator signs new fighters for the featherweight division. They made a division for me in Bellator. If I end my contract like this, to be the real featherweight champion, I will have to go to Bellator and fight with all the girls there”, said the Brazilian.
On the same podcast, Cyborg indicated that his UFC contract has three more fights. Coming of victory over Holly holm, the Brazilian must actually face her compatriot Amanda nunes, a duel that he doesn't like, as it prevents him from helping to build his division.
