Current UFC welterweight champion (up to 77,1 kg) and holder of the longest winning streak in the organization's history, Islam Makhachev gave an interesting opinion this Monday (14) during an interview with 'Red Corner MMA'. When asked about Jon Jones and his controversies with the use of banned substances, the fighter said that some of the American's victories are not valid.

According to the Russian, from the moment Jones tested positive in an anti-doping test, his winning streak should be ended and counted from the following fight. Jones' second fight with Daniel Cormier , for example, was ruled a No Contest after the substance Turinabol was found in his urine samples.

“I’m not denying that Jon Jones is one of the greatest athletes in history. But he was caught doping twice, and I think that’s why his streak isn’t considered valid. He entered a fight while on PEDs and won. That’s where a new count should have started,” he stated.

Cormier and Makhachev have a long-standing friendship, strengthened by years of training at the American Kickboxing Academy (AKA) in California. The two constantly have friendly and funny interactions during fight weeks, mainly due to the fact that the American became one of the official UFC commentators after hanging up his gloves in August 2020.
