After being surprisingly eliminated by Josh Saunders in the semifinals of the over 99 kg category, Preguiça put on a show in the absolute Grand Prix. The athlete submitted Francis Pana, won against Eoghan O'Flanagan by points and, in the semifinals, submitted Ruslan Abdulaev. In the final, the Brazilian faced his compatriot Roosevelt Sousa and submitted him via rear-naked choke. In this way, the Minas Gerais native became the first two-time absolute champion of the ADCC. Felipe's first gold medal in the absolute category came in 2017.
Kaynan disappoints
One of Brazil's top representatives in grappling, Kaynan Duarte, who shone at the 2024 ADCC, underperformed in the current edition. The athlete lost the final of the -99kg category to Luke Griffith and, in the superfight, suffered an injury and ended up being defeated by Yuri Simões.
Thanks to the victory, Yuri secured a spot in the super fight at the next ADCC, scheduled to take place in 2028. In it, the Brazilian will face his compatriot Preguiça.
