From the very first minutes, Goncharov showed that he wouldn't make Malhadinho's game plan easy. The Russian managed to neutralize a good portion of the Brazilian's takedown attempts and prevented the fighter from Bahia from imposing the strong grappling game that marked much of his MMA career. As a result, the fight remained balanced during the initial rounds, with the home fighter managing to score points and limit his opponent's main weapons.

In the third round, Goncharov had his best moment in the fight. The Russian managed to take Malhadinho to the ground and kept the Brazilian under control for a significant period, making any reaction difficult until the end of the round. The performance was enough to convince the three judges, who scored it 29-28 for Goncharov and confirmed the veteran's victory by unanimous decision.
