Knocked out at UFC Casa Branca, Poatan rules out appealing for a result change: 'It doesn't make sense'

Alex Poatan 's heavyweight debut (up to 120,2 kg) was nothing like he, his team and his fans imagined. In the co-main event of UFC Casa Branca , held last Sunday (14), in Washington (USA), the Brazilian was no match for Ciryl Gane and ended up being brutally knocked out in the second round. Days later, the veteran, upon reviewing the fight, showed himself to be dissatisfied with the result and positioned himself against referee Herb Dean, but does not believe that the tough defeat can disappear from his record.

In fact, in an interview with the YouTube channel 'The Ariel Helwani Show', Poatan ruled out appealing to change the result of the fight at UFC Casa Branca . It is worth noting that the athlete, irritated by the number of alleged illegal blows to the back of the head he received from the Frenchman, stated that he was harmed by the referee and blamed him for the defeat.

Therefore, a rumor surfaced suggesting that the Brazilian would appeal the loss in an attempt to overturn it into a 'no contest'. Now, Poatan has clarified the situation, reiterating that he has two objectives: a rematch against Gane and exemplary punishment for Herb Dean.

“It’s the referee’s mistake, you understand? And nobody’s calling him out. I’m here, it’s over, I don’t want to change the result. I just think I have to warn people about what’s happening, right? I think I have a voice to do that, you understand? Before something like what happened in boxing happens again, with a guy who took a punch to the back of the head and suffered lasting consequences,” said the former UFC champion.

“I lost the fight, but I can recover, you understand? I’m only here to avoid a tragedy. I’m not here for the result. The fight is over, I lost the fight, you understand? I can have another opportunity, just like I always have, I can recover, come back better. It doesn’t make sense to me. He’s there, if he feels like the champion, okay, but I want my rematch,” he concluded.
