On the eve of facing the undefeated Azamat Murzakanov in the co-main event of UFC 327, Paulo Borrachinha could jump the queue and become a new force in the light heavyweight division (up to 93 kg) if he wins. “When I saw the opportunity to face Azamat, who is ranked fifth or sixth in the 93 kg division, I decided to take it. It’s too good a chance to pass up, because I can move up or down at any time. I’m big for middleweight, it’s not very difficult. I’m here to bring a good fight to the fans, the fans don’t care about weight classes, they just want to see fireworks,” he stated.

Borrachinha has already been involved in controversies related to weight cutting.

Known for dehydrating himself extensively to reach the middleweight limit (up to 83,9 kg), Borrachinha made his debut in the higher weight class in October 2021 against Marvin Vettori . On that occasion, he suggested a weight change days before the fight because he couldn't reach 84 kg, generating tension with the Italian. He ended up being defeated by unanimous decision.
