Ian Garry has put forward a proposal to reorganize the UFC's bustling welterweight division. After Islam Makhachev dominated Jack Della Maddalena and won the title, the Dagestani fighter became the target of a long line of challengers interested in dethroning him. Aware of the situation, the Irishman, who is among the top contenders for the title, suggested a way to unlock the division's potential.
In a video posted on social media, Garry suggested a potential duel between Carlos Prates and Michael Morales as an ideal fight for the division at this moment. According to the fighter, the confrontation would pit two athletes known for their high knockout power against each other, and he expressed skepticism about the Ecuadorian's willingness to accept the challenge.

“Everyone has an opinion on who should fight whom next in the welterweight division. Here’s mine: Carlos Prates versus Michael Morales , because they are two very powerful strikers, and I want to see who comes out on top. I doubt Morales will accept, because the truth is that Carlos hits harder,” said Ian Garry.
The Irishman also considered a matchup involving Prates and Jack Della Maddalena , but argued that the former champion should face Kamaru Usman . According to Garry, the duel would serve as an important test to assess the evolution of JDM's takedown defense game, as well as indicate whether the Nigerian still possesses the necessary level to compete against the new generation of the division.
“I also kind of wanted to see Carlos against JDM, but I’m going to match Jack against Kamaru Usman . I want to see if Jack can defend takedowns. Has he learned? Can he improve? Can he evolve? And Kamaru, does he still have the gears to face a prospect?” the Irishman continued.
Finally, Ian Garry made his main objective clear when projecting the scenario for the division. For him, the next welterweight title defense should be between champion Islam Makhachev and the number one contender: himself.
“And finally, the fight for the welterweight world title. I want to see champion Islam Makhachev defend his belt against the number one in the world: Me.”, concluded Ian Machado Garry.

Although Ian Garry suggested Carlos Prates to face Michael Morales , the 'Ecuadorian Spider-Man' claims that Ian Garry doesn't deserve respect and revealed his desire to face the Irishman inside the UFC octagon.
“So, ( Ian Garry ) is a fighter who doesn’t deserve respect. And I want to fight him. I really want to fight him. Whether it’s after the title fight or before, it doesn’t matter. I could even be champion. And if I become champion, I would also ask for that fight,” said Michael Morales in the interview.
