Islam Makhachev has made it clear who he considers his biggest challenge in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg). After winning his second Ultimate belt by dominating Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322, the Dagestani fighter has seen a line of potential challengers forming. Even so, the champion already has a favorite to share the octagon with: Kamaru Usman.
In an interview with 'RED Corner MMA', Makhachev stated that, despite media skepticism, he sees Usman as an opponent capable of overcoming all contenders for the title. According to the champion, names like Carlos Prates and Michael Morales have not yet been tested at the highest level of the UFC and, therefore, the Nigerian represents the most difficult matchup available in the division.

“The media doesn’t believe in this fight, but in my opinion, Usman would steamroll every one of these promising young guys like Morales, Prates… These guys haven’t been evaluated yet. I think Usman would be the toughest fight for me,” said Islam Makhachev.
