Gabriel Marretinha responds to Randy Brown's complaints: 'He was sleeping'

Gabriel Marretinha achieved a great victory last Saturday night (08). In the main fight of UFC Las Vegas 111, the Brazilian knocked out Jamaican Randy Brown in the second round with a beautiful knee strike. The triumph, however, came with controversy, as the Jamaican complained about the referee Mark Smith's stoppage.

Without getting into any controversy, Marretinha asserted that his rival was knocked out when he hit the ground after the blow.

“He was sleeping, guys,” the Brazilian said during the post-fight press conference. “He was knocked out. I saw that his eyes were rolled back,” he added.

Understand what happened

The fight between Gabriel Marretinha and Randy Brown was fought standing up all around the world. The Jamaican tried to use his reach to land punches on the Brazilian, who posed the greater threat.

In a short-range exchange, Gabriel landed a beautiful knee strike, and Brown went down with his arms outstretched, but quickly regained consciousness.

Referee Mark Smith rushed to stop the fight, but Brown immediately protested. This led to several appeals for Smith to allow the fight to continue, at least to give Brown a chance to defend himself, as Bonfim moved forward to deliver more strikes on the ground.

Marreitnha aims high for 2026.

Gabriel Marretinha had a great year in 2025. The Brazilian had three fights with three wins during the season. However, the fighter dreams even bigger for next year. He, who is currently ranked 14th in the welterweight division (up to 77,1 kg), aims for the top 5 in 2026.

"All you can expect from me in 2026 is that I'll be among the top 5 before becoming champion of this weight category," stated Gabriel Marretinha.

The UFC organization seemed unconcerned by Randy Brown 's complaint . This is because the knockout earned Gabriel Marretinha the 'Performance of the Night' award and US$50, approximately R$266 at the current exchange rate.
