Paddy Pimblett downplays Islam Makhachev's chances at UFC 322 and challenges former champion.

Paddy Pimblett doesn't believe Islam Makhachev has a chance against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 322. The Dagestani fighter relinquished his lightweight title (up to 70,3 kg) to try and make history and become a double champion in the welterweight division (up to 77 kg). In 'The Baddy's' opinion, however, the Russian will face a reality check.

In a video posted on the UFC Europe Instagram page, Paddy Pimblett stated that he was rooting for Jack Della Maddalena against Islam Makhachev . The Englishman highlighted that the Australian is technically superior in boxing and that, if he can keep the fight standing, he is fully capable of dominating the bout.

“I expect JDM to beat him up. I think JDM is a much better boxer, and if he can keep the fight standing, then he’s absolutely going to beat him, and I expect he does,” said Paddy Pimblett.

Subsequently, Pimblett countered Makhachev's criticism, who had questioned the Briton's record, and reminded him that the current lightweight champion earned his title shot by beating Bobby Green , the same opponent he defeated in less time.

“Islam was talking nonsense the other day, saying, ‘Who have I beaten?’ He got his title shot by beating Bobby Green , someone I beat faster than you. You little bum. Go back to lightweight and I’ll smash your head in too,” concluded the British star.
