Werdum blasts Vitor Belfort for criticizing Wanderlei Silva: 'He has no moral standing'

Apparently, Fabrício Werdum will not forget Spaten Fight Night 2. Last Saturday (27), in São Paulo, the event ended sadly, with a general brawl between the teams of Acelino Popó and Wanderlei Silva in the ring. Having witnessed the victory of the Bahian by disqualification and the confusion up close, Vitor Belfort criticized his eternal rival. Upon learning of 'The Phenom's' position, 'Vai Cavalo' defended his friend.

During a live broadcast on his Instagram, the Rio Grande do Sul native emphasized that Belfort is not in a position to offer an opinion, noting that, for the second time, the fight between him and Wand was canceled due to an injury. The former Pride champion was originally scheduled to face the Rio de Janeiro native, but after the latter suffered a concussion in training, he left the show and was replaced by Popó. Not satisfied, Werdum also criticized Belfort for pointing out the Curitiba native as responsible for the fight and congratulated the Bahia native for having the patience to endure the illegal strikes.

"Vitor is completely out of character. He's a guy with a history of problems, too, always making excuses. I'm not saying he didn't have the injury, but he's had a history of yellow cards. He's a very good fighter, there's no denying that, he's a great fighter. Vitor made fun of me, saying something like that, that Wanderlei caused all the fuss, that he sided with Popó, but in reality, he only paid attention to their rivalry. He didn't think about what he said," said the former UFC champion.

And it didn't stop there. Not forgetting that Vitor was prevented from the highly anticipated rematch against Wanderlei due to a concussion, Fabrício not only found it strange, but also criticized him for speaking to reporters at the pre-fight press conference and even attending the event. The athlete quickly implied that the Rio native was taking advantage of the spotlight to promote himself.

"I didn't think Vitor's statement was cool. He was disrespectful and shouldn't even have been there. I would have been ashamed, like Vitor, to be at the event. He shouldn't have been at the event; he should have been at home resting because he had a mental problem. He shouldn't have been there. Vitor is completely disrespectful, that's for sure," Werdum concluded.

Cancellation of fights

The highly anticipated rematch between Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva was scheduled twice. In 2012, the UFC fight didn't happen because Belfort suffered a hand injury. This season, in Spaten, the fight didn't materialize because "The Phenom" suffered a concussion. Nevertheless, despite fan skepticism, the athlete has assured that he is interested in facing "The Axe Murderer" again and guarantees that the new duel between them will happen.
