Previously scheduled to star in UFC Rio alongside Charles of the Bronx, Raphael Fiziev ended up seeing the biggest career opportunity slip through his fingers. A victim of a history of knee problems, the fighter injured himself again and was forced to withdraw from his fight with the fourth-ranked lightweight (up to 70,3 kg) on October 11th.
After the UFC's official announcement, which revealed that Mateusz gamrot would be the Brazilian's new opponent, Fiziev went on his social media to lament the episode and admitted that it was his dream fight.

"Many people have asked me what happened to me, why I pulled out of the fight. I injured my knee again, I won't need surgery, but I can't train 100%. I can't train wrestling, spar. I need to rest for a few months and then come back to fight. I wanted to fight in Brazil; it's my dream fight, but I've already had a few surgeries on my knee, and it's a big risk to go and fight with an injured knee now. A big risk to go and have a third surgery on the same knee," the athlete declared on his official account. Instagram.

Currently ranked 10th, Fiziev is coming off a victory over Ignatius BahamondesWhen Charles was announced as his opponent, the fighter surprised many fans by receiving a major career opportunity. Despite his statement, the Kazakh hasn't made it clear when he plans to return to action.
In a duel against Gamrot in 2023, Fiziev injured his knee during the fight in the second round and was defeated by technical knockout. The athlete currently has 13 wins and four losses on his professional record.
