Big Brazilian name in the world of MMA, Michael Pereira ended up having an unpleasant episode in his last appearance in the octagon. Knocked out by Kyle Daukaus No. UFC Shanghai, the high-flying Paraná native ended up suffering his third consecutive defeat and moved away from the top 15 in the middleweight division (up to 83,9 kg).
In an exclusive interview to SUPER FIGHTS, Joelson Guerra, Michel's coach, did not hesitate to point out a mistake made by his pupil in the duel against Kyle and avoided making excuses about a possible problem that the athlete could have had on the eve of the match.

"Nobody expected it. Nobody was expecting what might happen. Michel was trained very well, we had a very good strategy. Michel's expression and power were different. His will to fight was unmatched. He was dominating the fight. Unfortunately, MMA is a combat sport; it's a double-edged sword. He shortened the fight too much with the jab and stepped inward. It wasn't supposed to happen, he should have stepped outward. When he tried to escape, the guy threw that cross, catching Michel," he declared.

Joelson also believes the referee could have been more patient before stopping the fight after Daredevil's impact. Despite his dissatisfaction, Guerra emphasized that he understood the referee's decision.
"Unfortunately, the blow landed and Michel went down. I thought it was a huge mistake by the referee to stop the fight so quickly. You saw Johnny (Walker) in the Chinese boxing match, hitting and hitting, even (Renato) Moicano asked if he was going to stop, and the guy (referee) kept letting him. Michel, he gave him two hammer blows there, and the referee stopped him. Michel got up fine. But that's my opinion, and the guys have theirs."
Response to Michael Bisping
Finally, the coach denied the talk of Michael Bisping, in which the commentator publicly declared that he had watched Michel 'pull weight', accompanied by 20 people and with loud music before the duel against Kyle.
"The athlete, a week before the fight, just loses weight. After making weight, they recover. On fight day—this applies to any athlete, regardless of sport—they do activation. The activation in the morning before the fight is to work on muscular and neuromuscular activation, to activate the muscle, so that it arrives at the time of the fight and is in good shape, to avoid muscle fatigue. So we remove that in the morning."
"Michel likes to do the machine part, bench press, dumbbells, squats, and then do the technical part, the fighting moves he'll use in the fight. It's not that he's working out, he's just activating muscles. Michael Bisping "He got there and he (Michel) wasn't with 20 people, there wasn't loud music. He even misspoke; it wasn't inside the Performance Institute, it was in the hotel gym. It was just Marinho Rocha and I, and that was it. There's not even 10 minutes of time; it's just to activate the body," he concluded.
According to the coach, the team expects Michel to return to the UFC Octagon in the future. Guerra doesn't believe his protégé is at risk of being fired after suffering his third consecutive loss in the middleweight division.
