Karine Silva defeats Dione Barbosa in a close fight at UFC 319
The fight between the Brazilians was marked by intensity and poise from the first round. Both engaged in a frank exchange, with jabs and leg kicks. Dione managed a relatively easy takedown and moved to Karine's back, but was unable to fully capitalize before the end of the round.
In the second round, Karina Silva imposed greater pressure against the fence, applying takedowns and heavy strikes. Even so, Dione proved dangerous by landing heavy strikes in the final minutes, but suffered, however, from precise elbows from the jiu-jitsu black belt.
The third and final round maintained the fast pace, with both athletes constantly seeking victory. Karine nearly finished with a guillotine choke, but Dione managed to escape and attempt an arm twist. Still, the judges considered the 'Killer's' performance the more effective in an extremely close fight.
Karine responds to boos from the crowd
After the decision, Karina Silva responded to the boos and criticism from the public directly in the octagon.
"What are you guys booing? I don't understand, guys. You wanted me to show I was ready for three rounds, and I did. What more do you want?" the fighter said.
