Bruno Hulk shone on the UFC 318 preliminary card, submitting American Jackson McVey with an armbar in the first round in a middleweight bout (up to 83,9 kg). With the result, the Curitiba native earned his second consecutive victory in the organization and became the first fighter to defeat McVey as a professional.

The duel began with a brief study period between the athletes. McVey tried to impose his rhythm with high kicks and straight punches, trying to maintain distance, while Hulk responded with strong thigh kicks and dangerous crosses, especially right hands.
One of these kicks to the American's inside leg clearly bothered him and forced a change in strategy.
Sensing the blow, McVey went for the takedown, managing to momentarily control the Brazilian's back, but Hulk remained calm and quickly reversed the position. Landing on top with guard already passed, the Brazilian gained control of the fight on the ground. Bruno Hulk calmly advanced to the mount and then transitioned with precision to the armbar, forcing McVey to tap out.
