MMA fighter Godofredo Castro, known as Pepey, was arrested in Deerfield Beach, Florida last Monday (30), on charges of domestic violence. According to the complaint, he allegedly assaulted Samara Mello, his wife. In addition to leaving wounds on her body, the athlete also allegedly prevented the woman from asking for help, locking her in the couple's residence.

Authorities were called by neighbors, and the Brazilian was detained on bail of US$120 (R$650, at the current exchange rate). Pepey is being prosecuted by the State for five crimes, including kidnapping and obstructing contact with the police. If convicted, he could even be deported back to Brazil.
The victim was supported by the Fighting Foundation, founded by Rose Gracie, daughter of Rorion Gracie. The foundation was created to help fighters and their families with treatment and mental health issues.
Pepey competed in the UFC
At 38, Pepey gained some notoriety in 2012, when he competed in the first season of The Ultimate Fighter Brazil: In Search of Champions. Competing as a featherweight (up to 65,7 kg), the Ceará native reached the final of the competition against Ron Jason, but ended up losing by unanimous decision. He had 11 fights in the Ultimate, with five wins and six losses.
Since his dismissal in 2018, he has only had three professional fights, with only one victory. The fighter has not competed since 2022.
