Ilia Topuria gave Charles do Bronx no chance and knocked out the Brazilian in the first round of the main event at UFC 317 and won the lightweight belt (up to 70,3 kg), in the early hours of this Sunday (29). After the victory, the new champion recognized Paddy Pimblett as his next challenge and the two even exchanged shoves inside the octagon during the winner's interview.

With the victory, the Georgian/Spanish fighter became the tenth fighter to win titles in two different weight classes, and the first to achieve the feat while undefeated. The Brazilian suffered his third defeat in the last five fights, and at 35 years of age, he may have had his last opportunity to fight for the belt in the most populous category in the sport.
Topuria's knockout power put Charles' lights out

Charles started the fight dominating the center of the octagon and abusing front kicks, while Topuria tried to establish distance with the jab. The Brazilian tried to close the distance and take his opponent to the ground, but was reversed during the takedown and ended up on his back on the ground, in closed guard. Without much difficulty, the Georgian/Spanish made the transition to side control and threatened his opponent with a crucifix.

After attacking with a heel hook, the Brazilian managed to get back to the fight standing up and as he approached to land a straight punch, he was hit by a powerful right cross that left him unconscious two minutes and 27 seconds into the fight.
