Ariane Lipski's trainer makes bombshell revelation about weight cut: 'benign tumor'

Ariane da Silva had serious problems in her training camp for UFC 316 and this was reflected on the scale . The Brazilian will face Wang Cong this Saturday (7), on the preliminary card of the event. However, this Friday (6), 'Lipski' surprised by stepping on the scale 2,7 kg above the limit of the flyweight division (up to 56,7 kg). According to the fighter's coach and husband, Renato da Silva, a tumor was discovered during the athlete's preparation for the fight in Newark, New Jersey (USA).

"We discovered a small benign tumor in the pituitary gland that is causing all these hormonal changes," Renato da Silva revealed to journalist Guilherme Cruz of the North American website 'MMA Fighting'.

“We wanted to lower her cortisol levels so that it wouldn’t affect her health. By controlling her cortisol levels, we wanted to cause as little stress as possible to her body. And the nutritionist opted for a strategy that would make her maintain as much weight as possible until the end, and it was too much for the last few days. He doesn’t know her as well as I do, and he thought she could do it,” Renato said in the interview. 

The coach detailed the moment on weigh-in day when the team decided it was time to stop cutting weight.

“There was a moment this morning when she wasn’t feeling well. I know her body. There was still something there to cut, but at the same time, her reactions weren’t normal. She wasn’t walking properly, blinking very slowly, had double vision and couldn’t concentrate, her voice sounded weak. She was giving us dangerous signals as she lost weight. She still had fluid in her body, but her physical state was showing signs of danger, her body was signaling that it was time to stop,” he explained.

In situations like this, it is up to the Brazilian's opponent and the New Jersey Athletic Commission itself to decide whether or not to cancel the fight, since there will be a physical disadvantage in the confrontation. The fight was maintained, however, the Brazilian will have to pay 30% of her purse to her opponent as a fine.
